How To Control Lust

As adults men and women are sexually attracted to each other. But sometimes it can be a bit too much so the question becomes just exactly how to control lust?

What is lust?

First and foremost what is lust? In Matthew 5:28 some translations of that scripture say

“but I tell you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” -EHV. Others say “But I say to you, that every man that seeth a woman [for] to covet her, hath now done lechery by her in his heart [now he hath done lechery with her in his heart].” -WYC. Here we can see lust is closely linked with covetousness. We also know everything that Jesus taught was really a further explanation of the Old Testament or Torah. In which case it would make sense that some early bibles used the word covetousness instead of lust because God commanded the ancient Israelites to not covet if he said it today some would use the word lust. To covet is to excessively want things that don’t belong to you. The Israelites were commanded for instance not to covet their neighbors donkey, wife, house, or anything else that belongs to their number. Basically don’t lust after your neighbors wife, house, or donkey, or so. In this case we are talking about sexually wanting someone in away that is wrong, lust.

Physical manifestations of lust.

Some physical manifestations of lust or what lust can lead to is stalking, sexual assault, rape, adultery, fornication, incest, basically anything that can lead up to or physically having sex with someone you’re not married to. Some say masturbation and porn, sexting, phone sex and things like these are lust but in my opinion these can be healthy ways of handling lust depending on how you use them. For example one Bible translation says, “But I tell you that if a man looks at a woman and wants to sin sexually with her, he has already committed that sin with her in his mind.” -ERV. So in my opinion if you masturbate just to masturbate while looking at a woman that’s fine. However, the problem is if while looking at her and you’re not married to her you really want to have sex with her which could lead to fornication, rape, or adultery.

Is masturbation in the Bible?

Yes, masturbation is in the Bible. Maybe not the word masturbation but the action of masturbation is described in the law given to the ancient Israelites at Leviticus. In Leviticus 15:16-17 it says “When a man has an emission of semen, he must bathe his whole body with water, and he will be unclean till evening. Any clothing or leather that has semen on it must be washed with water, and it will be unclean till evening.” What is he doing to have semen come out of him if he isn’t masturbating?

Even women can masturbate all it says in the Bible is just that if you have any kind of discharge or semen you clean yourself. Take a bath, wait awhile and you’re clean. In modern day that could mean you use soap too and wash your hands at least. For men or women with bodily discharges the treatment is similar wash, and clean yourself and wait awhile even if it’s not semen or it’s stopped up in your body.

For example, Leviticus 15:1-12 says “‘The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When any man has an unusual bodily discharge, such a discharge is unclean. Whether it continues flowing from his body or is blocked, it will make him unclean. This is how his discharge will bring about uncleanness:

“‘Any bed the man with a discharge lies on will be unclean, and anything he sits on will be unclean. Anyone who touches his bed must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening. Whoever sits on anything that the man with a discharge sat on must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

“‘Whoever touches the man who has a discharge must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

“‘If the man with the discharge spits on anyone who is clean, they must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

“‘Everything the man sits on when riding will be unclean, and whoever touches any of the things that were under him will be unclean till evening; whoever picks up those things must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

“‘Anyone the man with a discharge touches without rinsing his hands with water must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

“‘A clay pot that the man touches must be broken, and any wooden article is to be rinsed with water.’” These scriptures show it’s a wise idea to shower every day almost like a daily ritual or ceremony in that you do it everyday. This helps cut down on diseases spread through physical contact, clothes, or just normal everyday living as a human being.

What does the Bible say about porn?

What about porn? What does the Bible say about sexually gratifying text, images, or so? The Bible at Ecclesiastes 6:9 “says It is better to be content with what the eyes can see than for one’s heart always to crave more. This continual longing is futile – like  chasing the wind.” In my opinion this means you can look but don’t touch the other person. Since all porn is, is just images, text, or sound I think it’s fine. I keep this reasoning within myself knowing what it says in the Bible and practice these things. This means you’re not alone if you do these things too. Plus we were naked in the beginning in the Garden of Eden. Almost like natural porn. There are those who say porn is wrong but in the same Leviticus it says if a bodily discharge is stuck in the sexual organ and doesn’t come out you would be sinning in those times. Atleast with masturbation you can empty your sexual organs on command for a while and know there will be no blockage or stuck semen resulting in sinning if the ancient Israelite law was valid today. It’s serious. That is why it’s important to learn how to control lust.

How to control lust at school, work, on the street, or in public.

It used to be I had high sexual urges in school like every other kid but I’ve learned to control them through discipline and masturbation. I think sexual urges is kind of like the urge to pee or defecate they can happen just about every day. The problem is how do you control it? It’s not that the girl down the road wears extremely tight or revealing outfits then some dude assaults her. Or a very tall smooth talking man sways a woman out of her pants. That’s not it at all. These urges come from our bodies even if we didn’t choose it. I believe if you regularly masturbate you’ll be relieved enough to not want to fornicate, or any kind of sex outside of marriage, or worse. At night before, bed you can masturbate. In the morning, in the shower you can masturbate and wash off your skin being clean for the day. You’ll be ready to handle the sexy looking women in extra short miniskirts or the sexy voiced man you can’t get enough of at work, school, in the street, or public without thinking too much about sex or engaging in actual sex with them. But if you somehow slip up and can’t resist them don’t given. Find a nearby bathroom somewhere where you’re at whether at work, school, in the street, or in public and silently masturbate. This will clear your mind and allow you to refocus on your work. I practice this and I’m doing fine. I don’t fornicate because God will judge fornicators and host of other reasons I find it best to masturbate until marriage. This is how I control lust at school, work, on the street, and in public. Don’t forget to wash your hands and anything with semen on it.

Have a goal, purpose, or place in life.

One way that’s also worked for me combined with the other suggestions above is to have a goal, purpose, or place in life to help control lust. Set your mind on this goal, purpose, or place in life and spend time building or feeding into it. For example, if you want to start a business as your goal work at it. If you want to be a mathematician work at it. If you want to exercise work at it. Learn about it read about it be about it. This gives your mind something to do instead of your mind and body sitting idle. Once you achieve this goal don’t give up. You can learn more about the goal, expand on the goal by teaching it, getting good at it or refining it. If you realize this goal isn’t what you want set a new one but whatever you do keep going keep your mind and body busy. After all, what is life for if it isn’t for experiencing?

Don’t forget God.

You can definitely pray to God to help you control lust. Jehovah God will give you Holy Spirit to help reinforce your efforts to control your lust. Having a genuine good relationship with Jehovah God through prayer, worship, and obedience to his word will help you to control lust and gain control.
